La cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image – Les collections numérisées

La cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image, located in the French city of Angoulême, focuses entirely on comics. It includes a museum, two libraries, a documentation center, an international artists’ residence, and a cinema. This website provides access to its digitized collections:

  • Thematic collections: The First World War. Comics published on the war or during the period of the war.
  • Collections sorted by author: Caran d’Ache, Cham, Alain Saint-Ogan, and Rodolphe Töpffer.
  • Collections sorted by journal: American Illustré (1907-1908), La Baïonnette (1915-1918), L’Épatant (1912-1917), Excelsior Dimanche-Dimanche illustré (1923-1940), La Jeunesse illustrée (1903-1935), Lisette (until 1940), Pierrot (until 1934), Le Pierrot (1889-1891), Le Petit Français illustré (1889-1905), Le Rire (from 1894), and Les Trois couleurs (1914-1917).
  • Collections by publishing house: images from Maison Quantin published between 1885 and 1905.

Within each collection it is possible to do a basic or advanced search, or to browse the isues chronologically. Images are shown in high definition. In most cases the issues are shown in their entirety, as downloadable PDF files. In some cases separate images are shown only on the website and cannot be downloaded. Additional information on each collection is given.
