Histpop - The Online Historical Population Reports

The Online Historical Population Reports (OHPR) collection provides online access to the complete British population reports for Britain and Ireland from 1801 to 1937. This includes not only basic population reports, but also much textual and statistical material which provide a view of economy, society, and medicine during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

In August 2014 about 200.000 pages of census and registration material for the British Isles were available. In addition, the website contains numerous ancillary archival documents from the National Archives, legislation, and critical essays.

The collection can be searched with various search criteria. It is also possible to browse by date or geography. The census and registration material are shown in separate digitized pages, which can be downloaded in TIFF format (high resolution) or PNG format (low resolution). Legislation is shown in transcription.

OHPR is an AHDS History project, funded as part of the JISC Digitisation program and is hosted by the UK Data Archive at the University of Essex.
