Freeze Frame Historic Polar Images

Freeze Frame presents an online catalogue of over 20,000 images from the historic negative collections at the Scott Polar Research Institute. "The negatives cover expeditions into the Arctic and Antarctic during the period 1845-1982 and representing some of the most important visual resources for research into British and international polar exploration these images are presented with ancillary material from the collections of the Institute, and critical essays contextualising much of the material."

"This collection of some 20,000 pictures covers expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica. The images are presented at a reasonable size with copyright information laid over the picture. There are full search facilities, including the ability to search by date, expedition or photographer as well as the ability to find images by a keyword tag cloud." The records can be viewed online, or downloaded as .pdf file.

The Freeze Frame project is funded as part of the JISC digitisation programme and is hosted by the University of Cambridge in collaboration with DSpace@Cambridge.
