Daguerreotype Research Portal

Daguerreotype Research Portal is a project undertaken to develop methods to share data and images of the daguerreotype. In total, 31 daguerreotypes were examined, coming from the collections of 3 collaborating institutions: George Eastman House, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Museum of Fine Arts Boston. All 31 plates were made in the Boston studios of Southworth & Hawes in the period 1843-1863.

A variety of search options is available: keyword search, full text file search, view lexicon hierarchy, advanced search for objects, or view pilot sample objects. Images are shown in large format and high resolution, and can be downloaded in JPEG format. Each image is accompanied by a variety of condition data.

The website also contains a large amount of information regarding daguerreotypes in general and these 31 in particular.

The project was funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
