Coflein is the online database for the National Monuments Record of Wales (NMRW), the national collection of information about the historic environment of Wales. The collection of the NMRW contains over 1.25 million photographs, 70.000 plans, and 50.000 historic maps, as well as thousands of surveys and reports. Gradually, items from this collection are being digitized and made available through Coflein. In August 2015, Coflein allowed access to details of many thousands of archaeological sites, monuments, buildings, and maritime sites in Wales, together with an index to the drawings, manuscripts, and photographs held in the NMRW archive collections.

Different search options are possible: basic search, site search, catalogue search, and map search. It is possible to restrict the search to sites with images.

Various types of images can be shown for each site: for example photographs (such as landscape photos, views of excavation workers, and aerial views), drawings, plans of sites, objects found in excavations, survey reports, and other text documents. Metadata are provided for each image. Records are accompanied by a site description.

Coflein is sponsored by the Welsh Government.
