Bibliothèque Virtuelle des Manuscrits Médiévaux

The Bibliothèque Virtuelle des Manuscrits Médiévaux (BVMM) provides access to a large collection of digitized manuscripts from the Middle Ages until the 16th century. These manuscripts come from various collections in France, with exception of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Some of the manuscripts have been digitized in their entirety, other ones only partially. In August 2014 over 10.000 manuscripts were available.

Documents can be found by selecting a library and a shelf number. In alternative, manuscripts can be found by using the directory Medium. Répertoire des manuscrits reproduits et recensés or other databases of the Institut de recherche et d’histoire des textes (IRHT).

It is possible to zoom in on the documents, up to full-size. The website also allows users to compare documents by placing them in separate columns. Images can be downloaded in JPEG format.

The website was made by the IRHT-CNRS, with the support of the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication and the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche.
