Archivio Primoli

The Archivio Primoli is the website of the digital photographic archive of the Fondazione Primoli. The Fondazione Primoli was established in Rome in 1928, according to the last will of Count Giuseppe Primoli (1851-1927). Its aim is to promote literary relations between Italy and France. In the Archivio Primoli photographs are contained that go back to the last twenty years of the 19th century. For the most part they come from Giuseppe Primoli; a smaller part comes from his brother Luigi. They cover a wide range of subjects.

Both free search and advanced search are available. In addition, there are various thematic albums: ‘caccia alla volpe’, ‘agro romano’, ‘l’ultima Cervara’, ‘Circo di Buffalo Bill’, ‘visite ufficiali’, ‘fotografia aerea’, ‘Napoli’, and ‘Venezia.’

Each photo is shown together with a brief description, such as photographer, title, dimensions, and technique. Photos can be downloaded upon registration, for which a fee needs to be paid. Registration also gives access to the restauration records of the photographs.
