1914-1918 online: International Encyclopedia of the First World War

Over the course of three years, the international joint research project 1914-1918-online: International Encyclopedia of the First World War is developing an English-language virtual reference work on the First World War. Planned to be publically launched in October 2014, the online encyclopedia will be the result of an international collaborative project to make available a multi-perspective, public-access knowledge base on the First World War.

In February 2014, the website already contains a large number of websites with primary sources concerning the First World War: collections of photos, audio files, maps, and other multimedia elements related to WWI. They can be found in the section ‘First World War Websites.’ They are ordered according to theme or country.

The project board and project management are located at the Freie Universität Berlin, with the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek also involved in the administration. Important contributors are the Deutsches Historisches Institut Paris, the Deutsches Historisches Institut Warschau, and the Deutsches Historisches Institut Moskau. The project is supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
