Theleme. Techniques pour l’historien en ligne: études, manuels, exercices, bibliographies is a website of the French École nationale des chartes. It provides introductory courses, folders with documents, and various study- and research tools, such as bibliographies, databases, and overviews of abbreviations.
The folders with documents (under ‘Dossiers documentaires’) contain a variety of primary sources. There are digital facsimiles from the collection of the École, dating from the 5th to 18th century (mostly from the period 1000-1500). There are various types of documents, such as archival material and books, religious and secular texts, and texts written in Latin, French, and Occitan. Each file contains an interactive high-definition facsimile, short notes about the document, complete transcription, various commentaries (for example about the paleographical, diplomatic, and linguistic aspects), and in some cases a translation. By moving the cursor over the facsimile, the corresponding transcription is shown.
The texts are divided in the categories ‘books’ and ‘documents.’ They are sorted in chronological order.
