Svenska Ostindiska Companiets Arkiv
The Archives of the Swedish East India Company (Svenska Ostindiska Compagniet) are indexed and accessible, searchable and viewable within the Digital Library maintained by the Manuscript Division of the Central Library at the Göteborg University Library. "The Swedish East India Company was active in the period 1731-1813 and had its headquarters in Göteborg. It had a monopoly of all Swedish trade with China, the most common import goods being tea, chinaware, and silk. A large portion of the Company documents that have survived are today part of the collections of the Manuscripts Department.... " "With the help of a search function in the digital archives you may search according to type of document, e.g. ship's roll and personal name. Function on board and place of birth and domicile are also searchable, as are subject terms such as China, tea, or desertion, with indication of pages where the word can be found." "Read more about the project in Margareta Benner's article: "The digital archive of the Swedish East India Company, 1731-1831: a joint project of a university library and a history department" (Online Information Review, vol 27, nr 5, 2003, sid. 328-332, pdf) . The project was supported by The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation 2001-2003. You may wish to read the project report from 1999 (14 pages, PDF format, Swedish).
