Progetto Mambrino

The goal of Progetto Mambrino is to study the corpus of Italian chivalric romances that were produced in Venice in the period 1546-1568, as translation and imitation of the Spanish romances after the success of Amadís de Gaula (1508). In addition, the project also looks at some other aspects of the 16th- and 17th-centuries Italian literature inspired by Spanish literature.

The section ‘Collezioni digitali’ contains digitized versions of Spanish-inspired Italian chivalric romances from the 16th-17th centuries. They come from the Biblioteca Civica di Verona, the Biblioteca Civica Bertoliana di Vicenza, and the Biblioteca internazionale La Vigna. Books open as pdf and can be downloaded. Each book also contains an introduction by the team members of Progetto Mambrino. In June 2014 the website was still under construction and not for all listed works digitizations were available.

The project is carried out by the Università degli Studi di Verona, in collaboration with various partners.
