Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum Media

The Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum (PIM, Petőfi Literary Museum) in Budapest was founded in 1954 by a council of ministers, with the aim of collecting and preserving records of Hungarian literature. In addition to preserve old collections, it also collects materials from contemporary Hungarian literature: it aims to collect Hungarian writers’ and poets’ legacies, correspondence, libraries, sound and video recordings, photographs, furniture, personal belongings, etc.

The PIM also has a digital library, entitled Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum Media, with audiovisual recordings of authors of Hungarian literature themselves reading their own work (poems, short fiction, excerpts from novels). In addition, the website also offers their texts, and a biography and bibliography of the individual auhors. The number of authors is increasing, as well as the number of translations of their works into other languages.

The authors and their works can be browsed alphabetically by author: either for the entire collection, for children’s literature, for authors in English or German, or for what is called ‘golden voices’ of the past. In addition, basic search in the entire collection is possible. Texts are shown in modern edition. Audio files are streamed on the website.
