"The project, "Paris, Capital of the 19th century," [...] offers online access to pictorial works and texts selected from the collections of the Art Slide Library, the Rockefeller Library and the John Hay Library at Brown University. [...]". It "provide a particularly significant and informative perspective on the political, cultural and social movements of this time period. Parisian society, military operations and dress, well-known personalities, and cityscapes are among the many subjects of images in the collection. Of particular interest to researchers is the inclusion of entire works — full text and images — for selected books and periodicals. The web site is designed to give students and faculty a visual tool to complement their study of history, art and literature from 19th century Paris...."
"The "Chronology" and "Essays" sections offer historical and contextual essays written by faculty, undergraduate and graduate students at Brown University and other institutions. The "Resources" section provides a bibliography of works available at the Brown Library and relevant Internet resources. Various searching capabilities enable users with different needs and search preferences 1) to browse the collection by metadata category, by thematic category, or by viewing all thumbnails; 2) to perform a basic or advanced keyword search."
