Magazines & war 1936-1939. Spanish civil war print culture

In 2007 the exhibition ‘Magazines and War 1936-1939’ was held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía at Madrid. It studied the role of artists in Spanish Civil War magazines, and included serial publications and ephemera from more than 20 private and public collections.

The website Magazines & war 1936-1939. Spanish civil war print culture was created to allow visitors to virtually browse 30 selected individual magazine issues from the library of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Rare Book and Manuscript Library of the University of Illinois. It also provides (among other features) a summary of each of these magazines and indices of the magazines displayed, organized by category.

The magazines can be browsed by title, political affiliation, region, or theme. Issues are shown in high definition.
