Letters of 1916 is "the first public humanities project in Ireland. it is creating a crowd-sourced digital collection of letters written around the time of the Easter Rising (1 November 1915 – 31 October 1916). The public can contribute to the database "by transcribing previously-collected letters" or by uploading owned original letters in the project database.To date (March 5th, 2014), "over 700 letters have been uploaded from both national Institutions and private collections. The Letters 1916 team is identifying, photographing and preparing hundreds more for upload and already selected and collected several images of letters from the following Irish institutions:

- Medical Missionaries of Mary
- Military Archives of Ireland
- National Archives of Ireland
- National Library of Ireland
- National Museum of Ireland
- Trinity College Dublin, Manuscripts and Archives Research Library
- University College Dublin, UCD Archives
