Image Path. Slides of rare and disappearing 20th century diseases

The collection Image Path. Slides of rare and disappearing 20th century diseases holds over 5000 slides of close to 1800 cases of "illnesses that were once common but are now becoming increasingly rare".

"The collection holds pathology slides representing a variety of diseases, including common human cancers, gastro-intestinal and skin diseases – many of which became rare as 20th century medicine advanced or are now cured at earlier stages.”

The project Image Path. Slides of rare and disappearing 20th century diseases contains digitised images of three collections of pathology slides held by the University of Leeds: The Matthew Stewart Collection, the Cancer Research Campaign Soft Tissues Sarcoma collection and early cases from the Pathology archive collection. The collections can be queried using a sophisticated search interface.

The project was funded by JISC Digitisation programme.
