Historische Bildpostkarten

Historische Bildpostkarten is a collection of digitized German-language postcards from the period 1895-1945, that are kept at the Universität Osnabrück. In December 2014 about 15.000 postcards were present. This number is increasing.

The postcards are sorted according to theme, in 17 main categories and various subcategories, which can be browsed. These categories are ordered chronologically. It is also possible to do a basic search in the entire collection, or to browse by incipit or by keywords/people.

Only the front side of each postcard is shown. Images are shown in high definition and can be downloaded in JPEG format. Each image is accompanied by detailed information. This includes also whether the card was written and/or sent, but, in case it was written, not the handwritten message.

This is a project of the Universität Osnabrück in collaboration with epos-Verlag, Osnabrück, Altonaer Museum, Hamburg, Deutsches Volksliedarchiv, Freiburg, Museum Europäischer Kulturen, Berlin, and Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin.
