Biblioteca Digital de la Biblioteca Foral de Bizkaia
The Biblioteca Digital de la Biblioteca Foral de Bizkaia is an innovative project that aims to bring the rich heritage of literature of the library to a wider public. Today, nearly 4,000 titles are available but the fund will consist of 8,000 full digitized titles. They cover printed editions of the 16th, 17th and 18th century as well as a significant collection of 36 incunabula, prior to 1501. The oldest work in the Digital Library is an incunabulum of 1483 of the "Chronicon S. Hieronyma versum latine et continuatum" of Eusebius Pamphilus. The fund is comprised primarily of works in Basque, Spanish and Latin. Included is also the socalled Bascongada Reserve which offers readers an important group of Basque-language works, important for understanding Basque culture and the Basque language. The Biblioteca Digital de la Biblioteca Foral de Bizkaia is a unique source for the study of the Basque culture with titles of outstanding importance like the original 1729 edition of "El impossible vencido: arte de la lengua bascongada", author P. Manuel de Larramendi, considered to be the first Basque grammar in print.
