Beeldbank UB VU- Image database Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Beeldbank UB VU is the image database of the Library of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. It contains images of various collections held by the university library (Special Collections) and the Historical Documentation Centre for Dutch Protestantism (HDC). The image collection is divided in four main categories:
  • Historische kaarten (historical maps): maps of all areas in the world, published between the 16th century and the 20th century. An emphasis is made on maps of the Netherlands and the Dutch territory. The map collection includes maps that show the topography of an area or a certain theme, for example in the field of geology, the hydraulic conditions and spatial planning.
  • Kleitabletten: Van der Meer-Cools collection, clay tablets and other objects.
  • Gegraveerde portretten: engraved portraits, from the 17th to the 19th century.
  • ME handschriften: manuscripts, 15th and 16th centuries.
The image database can be browsed by collection or searched by keyword. Images are offered in medium-sized resolution. Visitors can purchase high-resolution versions online.
