Bandō-Sammlung

Following the fall of Tsingtau, from 1917 to 1920 German prisoners of war were placed in the Japanese camp Bandō. The Deutsches Institut für Japanstudien owns a large collection of material from Bandō, as well as material from other camps in Kurume, Marugame, Narashino, and Tokushima (in total about 5600 places). On the website Bandō-Sammlung this material has been digitized, including magazines printed in the camps, brochures, maps, programs of theater and concerts, postcards, and photos.

The material is divided according to type. In addition, there are indices of names of people, names of camps, key words, and groups of key words. The website also contains a series of virtual exhibitions. Each digitized image contains a brief description and links to related objects. Zoom options are available.
