Bach digital

Bach digital focuses on the works of the Bach musician family and on the transmission of these works. The website offers a digital library that contains:

  • Complete digitized scans of manuscripts
  • A database listing manuscript sources of works by members of the Bach family
  • Catalogues of works by members of the Bach family

Under ‘Digital Libraries’, various types of digitized items can be found:

  • J.S. Bach’s autographs and the performance parts he used
  • The music archive of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin, which includes a central collection of the Bach family oeuvre
  • The Bach-Archiv Leipzig, covering the Bach sources from the remaining inventory of the old Thomasschule and the collection of Manfred Gorke, as well as various other sources that were acquired via the antique book market
  • Printed editions that were prepared under the supervision and with the involvement of the composers
  • Original librettos and booklets that could be purchased at performances

The number of digitized items is continuously being expanded. In November 2014 the database contained over 7700 objects, of which over 1100 were available in digitized version.

Both basic and advanced search are available. Extensive metadata are provided for each item. Material can be downloaded in PDF format.

This is a project of the Bach Archiv Leipzig, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preuβischer Kulturbesitz, Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB), and the Universität Leipzig.
