Archives de Périgord
The project Archives de Périgord was implemented with the aim of centralising copies of all documents relating to the history of Périgord, in fulfilment of a suggestion made in the nineteenth century by Ferdinand Villepelet. “We chose to focuse on the history of Périgord until the 17th century. The history of Guyenne, of the 100 years war, of religious crisis and of significant peasant revolts are the core of our project.” The project was made possible in collaboration with a great number of international institutions:
  • Bibliothèque nationale de France
  • Archives départementales de la Dordogne
  • Archives départementales de la Charente
  • Archives départementales de la Gironde
  • Archives départementales de la Haute Vienne
  • Archives départementales de la Haute Garonne
  • Archives Nationales de France
  • Archives de la Dordogne
  • The National Archives (UK)
  • National Library of Russia in Saint- Petersburg.
The database can be browsed by the institutions mentioned above and also by themes:
  • The Périgord collection of Pyrénées Atlantiques
  • Gallia Christiana
  • Chartularies
  • Société d'Histoire et d'Archéologie du Périgord (1874-1937)
  • Historians of France and Gaul (Rerum Gallicarum et Francicarum scriptores)
  • Philippe Labbe’s collection (chronicles, charters, other sources)
  • Thematic approach (habits and privileges of Périgord, rulers of Périgord, the „white coin” of Périgord).
The database includes also transcriptions and photographs of original documents which are in the archives of the département of Pyrénées-Orientales located at Pau, many of which are also found in the Collection Périgord. Seventeenth century copies of some of these and other documents are available at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in the Collection Doat. Documents are in French, Latin and Old Occitan and they cannot be downloaded.
